Libby L. McCall, the third vessel in a series of four new class monohull fast support vessels (FSVs) has been delivered to Seacor Marine, Houma, Louisiana.
Built at Gulf Craft in Franklin, Louisiana, the aluminium-hulled Libby L. McCall advances the traditional offshore support vessel model and offers a more cost efficient, comfortable, flexible and safer option to helicopter transportation, according to naval architect Incat Crowther.
Crew comfort and safety are central themes of the vessel’s design. Much like first class airlines, the passenger lounge of the Express-class plus FSV has spacious reclining seating in privacy pods, wifi and a snack bar area with LED lighting. A fully redundant Technicold chilled water HVAC system provides comfort in the crew accommodation area, which includes staterooms for 16 along with a large galley and mess area plus walk-in pantry.
A Naiad Dynamics interceptor active ride control system ensures optimal passenger and crew comfort during high-speed transits.
As for safety, specially designed gangways on each side of the vessel provide safe boarding to both crew and passengers. The vessel is certified by the USCG under Subchapters T, L and I and is classed by ABS with the notations as a High-Speed Craft with DP-2 and Fire-Fighting capability notations.
US-flagged, 59-m Libby L. McCall has a service speed of 33 knots, but can reach 38 knots thanks to its five Cummins QSK 60, EPA Tier 3-compliant main diesel engines that each produce 2,680 bhp, and Twin Disc MGX 61500 SC gearboxes that drive Hamilton HT-810 waterjets through a cardan shafting system from Driveline Service of Portland, Oregon.
Electrical power is supplied by three Cummins QSM 11 gensets, each producing 290 ekW.
Three 200-hp Thrustmaster of Texas 30TT200 bow thrusters provide stationkeeping and dockside manoeuvrability. Stationkeeping is enhanced through a Kongsberg DP-21 system providing Class 2 capability.
Additional design features include two FFS 250x350 XP firefighting pumps feeding FFS 1200LB remote-controlled monitors rated for Class 1 capacity.
