Subsea technology firm Sonardyne has acquired environmental sensing technology specialist Chelsea Technologies Group.
Surrey, UK-based Chelsea has a background in markets such as fresh and waste water, oceanography and other industrial applications. Along with its optical engineering capability it provides underwater acoustic products to the civilian and military markets.
Chelsea’s executive chairman Brian Phillips said “We will remain independent while greatly benefiting from the added engineering and financial support offered by this acquisition, in addition to accessing a broadened international reach.”
The acquired company’s products include FastBallast, used for ballast water compliance testing, and Sea Sentry, used for exhaust gas scrubber and wash water monitoring.
“Of particular strategic importance is the option we have to use Sonardyne’s volume manufacturing capabilities to satisfy our burgeoning orderbook for maritime products,” said Mr Phillips.
Sonardyne’s managing director John Ramsden said “[Chelsea] has strong footholds in shipping, hydrographic and ocean science markets, which complement our capabilities.
“In addition, Chelsea operates in the water environmental, process control and defence markets. We believe there are exciting opportunities for us in these sectors, which will be part of our future growth.”
