Following a successful technical inspection, Norwegian seismic firm SeaBird Exploration will acquire Geowave Voyager from a subsidiary of French geophysical services company CGG.
Geowave Voyager is a 2009-built seismic survey vessel. It has a length of 90 m, a beam of 24 m and a dwt of 2,879 tonnes. It has capacity to tow up to 10 streamers and can undertake 2D, source and niche 3D, and node-laying work.
It was originally announced on 11 July that SeaBird had conditionally agreed to acquire Geowave Voyage fully rigged with source and recording equipment, including 40 km of Sercel Sentinel Solid streamer, from CGG unit Exploration Vessel Reosurces II AS for US$17M plus a Nkr120M private placement.
SeaBird chief executive Hans Petter Klohs explained the rationale for the acquisition, saying “After a series of strong contract wins, we have secured high utilisation for most of our existing fleet well into the fourth quarter.
“We have been pro-actively seeking to grow the fleet in tandem with an improving underlying market, and this transaction will provide us with a very suitable quality vessel we know well from previous engagements at a very attractive price further strengthening our position and service offering in the 2D, source and niche 3D markets.”
